Last Week Tonight returns tomorrow night at 11:02pm ET. I’ve been a John Oliver fan for a long time, and reference him a lot. Sometimes he can say unpopular things like “Gavin Newsom is corrupt” in a way that doesn’t make people on Team Blue splutter and shut down.
There are occasional false notes. A piece last season went really easy on the Fed when discussing inflation. But those are exceptions. I’m not expecting John Oliver to lead the revolution, but he and the show invariably punch up. That keeps me watching.
